About HVAC Systems
Some of the most common questions about your overall HVAC system, air conditioner, heat-pump, and furnace.
How do I know if I need a new heater or air conditioner?
The average well maintained lifespan of HVAC equipment is approximately 10-20 years. If your unit is making loud on and off switching sounds and you find yourself needing to repair it often and can’t heat or cool your home properly, then we recommend it’s time to replace your HVAC unit. As your existing HVAC system ages, it doesn’t operate as efficiently and it could cost you more money.
What is an HVAC maintenance?
An HVAC Maintenance is the process of maintaining your heating, air conditioner, or heat-pump by inspecting, cleaning, and testing your equipment. By investing and scheduling your annual HVAC maintenance, will help improve the overall performance, maintain efficiency, reduce repair costs, preserve your manufacturer warranty, and extend the lifespan of your system. A lack of maintenance also results in a 5% efficiency loss, which could result in higher energy bills. Maintaining your existing system is the most logical way to ensure a healthy HVAC system.
What is a Heat-Pump System?
A Heat-Pump is an all-in-one heating and air conditioning system. An energy-efficient alternative to furnaces and air conditioners. Heat-Pumps are powered by electricity and dual fuel with a variety of installation system options that provide both cooling and heating. Heat-Pumps have both SEER ratings to the measure the air conditioning efficiencies and a HSPF rating for the heating efficiencies. The higher the ratings, the more efficient your Heat-Pump system runs with greater savings. Also available in Packaged Heat-Pumps, Ductless Multi-Splits, and VRV Systems that will keep you comfortable all year long.
What is a Ductless Mini-Split System?
A Ductless Mini-Split System (also known as Single or Multi-Zone System) does not require air ducts to operate. A Mini-Split has (2) main components, an outdoor unit (Condenser) and an indoor unit (Fan Coil Air Handler) that services individual rooms. The Indoor Fan Coil Air Handler can be hung on a wall or mounted on a ceiling (suspended or flush), which offers more flexibility to your installation options. These systems are available in AC only, Heat-Pumps, or VRV Systems.
What is a AHRI Certification?
AHRI (Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration Institute). The AHRI Certificate verifies the efficiency of the installed HVAC equipment. The program provides accurate testing and evaluation by measuring the heating and air conditioning equipment efficiencies, which confirms the equipment performance ratings.
HVAC Terminology
Some of the most common questions about HVAC Terminology and what it means.
What does a SEER rating mean?
SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratios). The SEER number is used to indicate how energy efficient the air conditioner or heat-pump is at cooling your home. SEER ratings range anywhere from 14 to 24+. The higher the SEER rating means the greater your units’ efficiency.
What does a EER rating mean?
EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio). The EER is used to rate the energy-efficiencies of an air conditioner or heat-pump system at a specific outdoor temperature of 95°F. EER ratings range anywhere from 11 to 14. The higher the EER rating, the more efficient your air conditioning condenser or heat-pump is.
What does a HSPF rating mean?
HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor). The HSPF is an energy-efficient rating for the heating portion of a Heat-Pump. The higher the HSPF, the more efficient the heating performance is of a Heat-Pump, which means more heat output and greater the energy savings.
What does a BTU rating mean?
BTU (British Thermal Unit). The BTU refers to the amount of energy it takes to produce heat. A complete standard HVAC system range from 60,000 to 80,000+. The higher the number of the BTUs, the more heat the HVAC unit can produce.
What does a AFUE rating mean?
AFUE (Annualized Fuel Utilization Efficiency). The AFUE is used to rate how efficient your furnace is. This measures how much fuel, such as natural gas or propane, it efficiently takes to heat your home. A standard furnace starts at a minimum of 80% AFUE and higher. A gas furnace with an 80% AFUE means it takes approximately 80% of fuel to heat your home, while the other 20% is released into the flue vent escaping the dwelling. The higher the AFUE rating, the more energy-efficient the furnace is on fuel costs and heating your home.

What our customers say
“Our project was completed on August 2nd. Loving our new HVAC system and set up! We really had a positive experience dealing with Julie and Ryan from start to finish of our project. They’re a great team! Ryan is very detailed and worked extended hours to make sure that our new AC is up and running in 48 hours. He spent long hours in the attic even…”
“Just had our original AC Units replaced from 1992…have had other AC repair people out and in the attic, however they did not address the issues that Ryan did…AND Ryan fixed them…took longer than expected, but he is a perfectionist and wouldn’t stop until it was done correctly! He is such a great guy and communicates well every step of the way! Julie is…”
“Ryan from AirTight Air has restored my faith in customer service and quality workmanship, and I can’t say enough great things about him! We recently purchased our house knowing that it was old and would need repairs, but we never expected to be handed the keys to our forever home and be told that the A/C & Heat just quit working!
